After ten years in public education and 18 years in the stock market, Tom followed his passion into the field of travel. During his immersion into this new field he has focused on the Internet and social media (particularly Twitter). It was partly his realization that traditional person to person travel agents were under utilizing the new tools available to them that led him to take a chance on what many wrongly perceive as a endangered business model. Despite public perception to the contrary, many travel agents are thriving in the age of Online Travel Agencies (OTAs). Often this site will be blogging about the business of booking travel and how the Internet and social media fit into it.
As a luxury travel agent part of his job is to get to know destinations and properties his clients might enjoy. Tom’s Travels will focus on these journeys of discovery and exposition. Through detailed and insightful reviews, images, and videos you will have the opportunity to see many of the best vendors in luxury travel through the eyes of a professional. Travel agents can only build a successful business if clients are satisfied. It is with this in mind, that we take a discriminating view of every travel vendor. Is this something would please our elite clientele?
Travel suppliers offer discounted or sometimes free travel experiences for travel agents (FAM or familiarization trips). Many of the travel experiences on this blog were discounted or free and are labeled as FAM trips to make this clear. These opportunities are offered in hopes of generating future bookings for the travel supplier. As independent travel agents familiarization allows us to see what is available for our clients. We also try to fit the best travel product to the client regardless of what we have had the opportunity to experience. No payments have been made to this site or it’s owner for promotional purposes.
